Domuz Ayrığı

A long-lived perennial with feeding value higher than many forage crops, though not very tolerant of drought and cold. It is grown in temperate, lowland and moist regions and reaches 60–120 cm, developing in tufts. Herbage yield is quite high and feed quality good; livestock graze and eat it readily. Its tolerance of trampling, superior competitiveness and high-quality yield in mixtures make it a good natural and artificial pasture plant. It is very productive especially on irrigated pastures, and its mixtures also suit hay and silage production. If harvest is delayed, however, it lignifies and feed quality drops. It is generally winter hardy, but its shallow roots make it sensitive to drought. Studies in the Aegean Region have shown that mixtures of birdsfoot trefoil, smooth brome and orchardgrass create very good artificial pastures.

A medium-early variety. Its spreading vigour, adaptation and nutritional value are high. Its dense emergence makes it indispensable in pasture blends. The resistance of its leaves to Fusarium and certain diseases is notable.
