Bermudagrass

Bermudagrass is used for lawns in hot-humid and hot semi-arid climate zones. It thrives where the average daily temperature is 25 °C and turns brown at 10 °C. It will not germinate if soil temperature is below 15 °C. It dislikes poorly drained sites, shade and high-pH soils. It is highly drought tolerant, yet will not grow where there is no water or maintenance. Because it withstands wear extremely well and renews itself through stolons, it is used on sports fields and golf courses in the regions mentioned. Where Bermudagrass is used, sowing together with Lolium perenne is recommended to protect it from heat stress during initial germination. In winter, when growth stops, overseeding with compatible Lolium perenne varieties maintains a continuous green cover.
